But I have strayed too far from the purpose of this article, which is to record my memory of a lunch at the Embassy at which Oscar Wilde was the chief, and I think only, guest, owing to my father’s ill health at the time. I fear I do not remember any of the brilliant conversation which, no doubt, took place between two such distinguished men as my father and Oscar Wilde. I remember that I was not at all attracted by the obese gentleman whom I was told was a great literary celebrity. In a letter written to my faithful correspondent the Rev.
