Popis: During processing, solid rocket propellants are particle suspensions which exhibit complex rheological properties. We discuss measurements of the properties of two typical solid propellants, HTPB and high energy. Despite their complexity in terms of particle shape and size distribution, these suspensions are shown to exhibit properties similar to those found in model systems. Of particular importance is the development of microstructure during shearing, which affects the ultimate performance of the rocket engine.
