After four months Russia's war in and against Ukraine is threatening the ability of some countries in the world to feed themselves. Over the past two decades, Ukraine had become a global supplier of primary agriculture and food commodities, such as cereals and sunflower-seed oil. Now, logistics are heavily disrupted, with exports of grain and other agricultural commodities considerably reduced as a result. The forthcoming 2022/23 harvest is also at risk as an estimated 30 per cent drop in land under seeded cultivation is expected. With the global food crisis coming to a head with every additional day, it is crucial to ensure accurate analysis of the evolving conditions of food security and to provide a baseline for further strategy planning, long- and short-term. |
