The family Mesoniscidae is endemic in southern Central Europe and in south-east Europe; it is limited to calcareous mountains. The family consists of a single genus, Mesoniscus Carl, 1906, with two species, M. alpicola (Heller, 1858) and M. graniger (Frivaldsky, 1865). Both are well defined by many good characters. The three described species of the genus Nematoniscus Verhoeff, 1930 as well as the species Mesoniscus histrianorum Arcangeli, 1939, are placed in the synonymy of Mesoniscus graniger. |
