Popis: 1. When added in vitro to crab haemolymph at concentrations of 50 or 100 mg.1 −1 , copper decreased both haemocyanin-O 2 affinity and the cooperativity of O 2 binding. 2. In crabs contaminated by a lethal dose of waterborne copper (2mg.l −1 ), haemolymph total concentration of the metal never reached levels that could affect O 2 binding properties directly. 3. Exogenous copper added in vitro or entering the animal in contaminated water was found for the most part non filterable and thus probably bound to haemolymph proteins.
