In trade-off analysis, construction managers rarely consider the environmental impact of construction project. However, besides time and cost, the environmental impact of project is also a key indicator of projects’ success. In view of the increasing air pollution due to execution of numerous construction projects, few studies have been conducted to optimize the time–cost–environmental impact trade-off. Because of the exponential increase in the number of non-dominated solutions, most algorithms do not provide quality Pareto-optimal solutions. To alleviate, non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm III (NSGA-III) is used to develop a time–cost–environmental impact trade-off (TCEIT) optimization model, which uses the reference point-based non-dominated sorting approach. The working of the proposed model is demonstrated through solving a case study project. The result of case study provides a set of Pareto-optimal solutions, from which the decision maker can adopt any solution according to their expertise and project considerations. Besides, a priori approach is presented to select one solution from the obtained Pareto-optimal solution. |
