Popis: | Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) are the foremost commonly performed bariatric procedure worldwide. Our study aimed to compare the short- and mid-term outcome of both procedures. An observational prospective study includes 100 patients with obesity undergoing LRYGB (n = 50) and LSG (n = 50) from September 1, 2016, to February 28, 2016. Patients had their regular follow-up at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 18 months. We evaluated operative time, length of hospital stay, early and late complications, weight loss, and comorbidity resolution. There was a significant difference between LRYGB and LSG in operative time (125.6 vs 57.8, P = 0.002). There were no significant differences in length of hospital stay (4.9 vs 4.5, p = 0.427), complications (early and late), and reoperation. No conversion and no mortality were reported. Patient compliance was 100% at 18 months. No significant differences were found in excess weight loss percentage (74.72 vs 64.68, p = 0.074) and resolution of comorbidities up to 18 months between both groups. In the short- and mid-term results, LSG is comparable to LRYGB in terms of safety and efficacy, so LSG is an alternative to LRYGB. |
