This chapter discussed the delamination as the main concern of laminated composite and presented nanostructures as interlaminar toughener at polymeric composite. Laminated composites are becoming the preferred material system in a variety of industrial applications. Excellent mechanical and thermal properties of fiber reinforced laminated composites and potential for structural tailoring are some factors which have contributed to the advancement of laminated composites. Their increased use has underlined the need for understanding their modes of failure and evolving technologies for the improvement of their fracture behavior. Today’s one of the newest and the best effective methods for improving fracture behavior of layered composites is nanostructure toughening. High aspect ratio, high surface area and more uniform dispersion in matrix of nanostructure reinforcement, make them an undertaken candidate for interlaminar toughening. Nanostructure increases fracture toughness of laminated composites by activation of different toughening mechanisms like fiber bridging and crack deflection and improvement of interphase bonding. |
