Popis: | Calorimetric measurements are reported on the enthalpies of mixing in the reciprocal system Ag+–Cs+–NO3−–Cl− at 350° and in the systems Li+–Cs+–Cl−–Br−, Na+–Rb+–Cl−–Br, and Na+–Cs+–Cl−–Br− at more elevated temperatures. These results, when compared with data for the binary systems involved, permit an evaluation of the ternary excess enthalpies. It is found that these excess enthalpies are all negative and of an order of magnitude consistent with the predictions of quasichemical theory. This suggests that they in the main are due to deviations from random mixing of the ions. The deviations from quasichemical theory show a nearly linear correlation with the difference in ionic size of interchangeable ions in the mixture. |
