For the purpose of quota management of the domestic Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) fishery, the average weight of 100 SBT over 10kg, per tow cage, is calculated prior to the transfer to grow-out pens, and used to estimate the overall weight of catch per tow cage. Weight threshold scenarios (10kg, 9kg, 8kg, 7kg, 6kg) were explored, utilising two methodologies, to investigate what weight threshold for the 100 SBT sampling would best maintain an average difference of 2 – 3% in the total tow cage catch weight estimates. |
