Popis: | The study of ground-water contamination in the Severence Basin showed that the primary source of this contamination was the high evapotranspiration rate combined with the low degree of ground-water and surface water outflow from the basin. This condition of high evapotranspiration and low ground-water and surface water outflow produced an increase in the total dissolved solids of 173 ppm/yr in the basin. This rate of contamination was determined by a water balance and a total dissolved solids balance applied to the entire basin. The present study was initiated as a result of reports of increasing contamination of aquifers in Northeastern Colorado. |
