Popis: The maximum bubble-pressure method has been used to determine the surface tensions of molten glasses. The compositions of the glasses were those typical of certain types of commercial products. A brief summary of the theory and application of the method is presented. The surface tensions of the glasses studied were of the order of 300 dynes per centimeter and the temperature coefficients were — 0.017 dyne per centimeter per degree centigrade. It was found that A12O3 raised the surface tension of soda-lime-silica glass, the increase being almost linear between 2% Al2O3 and 8% Al2O3.
