This review aims to evaluate the impact of exercise on brain plasticity. Specifically, we want to compare the effect of exercise against different controls. The proper control for voluntary exercise in laboratory animals, especially using spinning wheels, is not standardized. For instance, some groups use standard cage conditions while other studies use a fixed/locked wheel. This difference may impact the effect of exercise, which could be contaminated by presence of the apparatus in the cage, even if it is not operating. |
