The contemporary management of lymphomas requires that they are accurately classified and subtyped according to the WHO system of classification. This study aims to classify the various types of lymphomas seen in our center by morphology and immunopenotyping using basic antibody panel. Immunohisto-chemical staining using CD45, CD20, CD3, CD5, CD10, CD23, CD30, CD15, BCL2, BCL6, cyclin D1, ALK-1, Ki67, Tdt, EMA was done on 110 lymphoma cases. NHL constituted 84.5% (93) while HL was 15.5% (17). The B cell NHL was 64.5% (71) and T cell NHL was only 20% (22). DLBL, SLL, and FL constituted 45.1%, 21.1% and 10.0%, respectively, of the B cell NHL. Burkitt lymphoma and MCL accounted for 7.0% each; while MALTOMA and MZL also accounted for 4.2% each. Precursor B cell lymphoma was seen in 1.4% of cases. PTCL constituted 45.5% (10 of 22) of the T cell lymphoma. Precursor T cell lymphoma, MF and ALCL accounted for 22.7%, 18.2% and 13.6%, respectively. Our study in comparison to other countries showed no significant difference in the relative frequency distribution of most of the lymphoma subtypes with exception of Burkitt and small lymphocytic lymphomas. |
