Popis: Although organ transplant success rates have improved in recent years due to improved patient management and the availability of more effective immuno-suppressive drugs, immunological rejection remains an important problem. Patients who reject a transplant become candidates for retransplantation. The situation is fundamentally different for kidney transplant recipients, who usually return to dialysis after rejection and can be retransplanted electively, and heart and liver recipients for whom life saving machine support is not routinely available. Therefore, kidney retransplants are performed at a much higher rate than heart or liver retransplants.
