Popis: We observed the settlement of barnacles on test panels from July, 1996, to March, 1999, at an electrical power generating station on the shore of Kin Bay in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. Amphibalanus reticulatus and Tesseropora pacifica were the dominant species of barnacle on the test panels. Amphibalanus reticulatus settled mainly in April and from August to November. Tesseropora pacifica settled from September to January. Growth of A. reticulatus was slow in winter but became fast in spring. We also investigated the sessile organisms in the power station's water intake conduits, where barnacles proved to be among the major fouling organisms.
