Popis: Tuberculosis has plagued mankind for thousands of years and may be responsible for more cumulative deaths than any other single disease or disorder. The future burden of tuberculosis will be accounted for predominantly in the regions of the world with the highest rates of poverty, population growth, and urban crowding. Competition for international development assistance for health and domestic health spending by other disease and public health priorities will influence progress in achieving the ambitious targets outlined in the political declaration of the high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the fight against tuberculosis adopted on October 10, 2018. Critical knowledge and evidence gaps for tuberculous meningitis need to be addressed to improve outcomes of patients with this lethal disease.
