The flow-induced vibration problem of the tube array in a new type of steam generator in PWR nuclear power plant is examined by using a scale model test set-up. The support conditions of the measurement tubes are the primary test parameters. Test results show that when the tubes are supported according to design specifications, stability prevails, the tubes only undergoing low stress random vibration. This report presents experimental results as well as the results of an analytical data reduction procedure to determine the turbulence force spectrum. The resulting force spectrum is found to be in good agreement with published data for the turbulent force spectrum in a tube array. This report is the first part of a two part paper. Fluidelastic instability is covered in the second part. |
