Ayurvedic treatment protocol is based on single and polyherbal formulations. Standardizing herbal formulation is predominant to ensure quality and efficacy of the preparation. The current review paper has been developed by doing meta-analysis of 37 full text articles. The detection, quantification and chemical interaction of components present in the herbal preparation possibly determined using HPLC, LC-MS, UFLC-MS/MS, GC–MS, QTOF-MS, ESI-MS and HRMS. Assays such as ABTS, DPPH, FRAP measures the antioxidants present in the herb and characterization done using TR-FTIR and NIS. The rapid morphological recognition of non-volatile herbal toxins can be perceived using ELDI/MS and FT-ICR/MS. The varied elemental composition can be determined using AAS, ICP-MS and LIBS. The DNA adducts in herbal preparations are estimated using UPLC/ESI-IT-MS and TSQMS. By emphasizing Ayurvedic epistemology and advances in phytopharmacology the therapeutic and pharmaceutic stability of the preparations can be enhanced. The stability, therapeutic potency and standardization of an Ayurvedic formulation can only be authenticated using Analytical chemistry. |
