Popis: | Fungal endophthalmitis is a severe intraocular infection with a poor prognosis in most cases. We report a case of a 56-year-old man who had phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation and presented with fungal endophthalmitis 1 month after surgery. Histopathology studies suggested the infection was related to the Zygomycetes class. Three months after treatment with intravenous and intracameral amphotericin B in addition to a pars plana vitrectomy, the patient successfully recovered a corrected distance visual acuity of 20/20. Based on the literature, this is the second case reported of Zygomycetes related to fungal exogenous endophthalmitis after cataract surgery. |
