Popis: | Recenr smdies employing rhe Embedded-flguues rest (Zuckerman, Kolin, Price, & Zoob, 1964) and rod-and-frame scores (Zuckerman & Link, 1968) have shown sensation-seeking to be correlated wirh field independence for males bur nor for females. This was inrerpreced in rerms of high sensarionseekers possessing grearer sensir~vicy to inrernal bodily sensations. The purpose of rhis sn~dy waz replicarion and exrension to the new Form IV of the senrarion-seeking scale (Zuckerman, 1971) which measures five componenrs of sensarion-seeking. Form IV was adminisrered to 71 male and 65 female inrroducrory psychology srudenrs who were rhen resred in rhe rod-and-frame apparatus where rhe average deviation from rhe vertical over 8 rrials was computed. Producrmoment correlarions were obrained: General Sensarion-seeking (.064, .003, .031), Thrill and Advenrure Seeking (.199, 108, ,136). Boredom Suscepribiliry (-,113, -.081, -.OW), Disinhibirion (.200, -.099, -.057), and Experience Seeking (.003, -.133, -.064) for males, females and toral dara respectively. These dara indicare rhar field independence is pracrically unrelared ro scores on rhese wales even for rhe opposed rhough minor nonsignificant relationships wirh Thrill and Adventure Seeking and Disinhibirion for males ( p > .10 for a rwerailed resr) I t should be poinred our char Zuckerman, er al. (1968) had rheir Ss make rod adjusrmenrs while siccing up in a bed in n soundproof dark room, and in our srudy E manipulared rhe rod, hence comparisons may be renuous. Unforrunarely [he Embedded-figures rest was nor included as an alrernarive measure. |
