Popis: Within mental health care there are competing narratives to explain unusual phenomena. As such, there can be a complex interplay between personal stories and the approach of different professionals. In this article two attendees reflect on their attendance at a bespoke group programme delivered in a medium-secure unit. This group was built on the foundations of the Hearing Voices Movement, though consolidated by the integration of relevant psychological theory. We present our group as a compassionate and person-centred approach to making meaning of unusual experiences. However, we also emphasise the role of theory to support the development of helpful explanatory frameworks.
