Simulated coal ash corrosion of Ni-based alloys

Popis: The influence of various parameters on coal-ash corrosion has been investigated for Ni-based alloys and a highly-alloyed austenitic stainless steel. The study considered factors related to the environment such as the atmosphere, the test temperature and the ash, and material-specific properties such as the alloy composition, the degree of surface cleaning and finishing. In addition, the effect of a superimposed creep stress has been investigated. Differences in corrosion mechanisms result primarily from the composition of the alloys tested. This also leads to different sensitivities to changes in the other parameters studied. Superimposition of a creep stress promotes the attack in the case of a low corrosion resistance of the alloy.
