Popis: | We have investigated the magnetic structure of the fcc - antiferromagnet HoB12 and of some other dodecaborides by specific heat and magnetisation measurements, and by neutron diffraction. Specific heat and magnetisation measurements up to 8 T show three magnetic phases in the B vs. T phase diagram. Powder neutron diffraction in zero magnetic field reveals an antiferromagnetic structure with basic reflections (0 2/3 2/3) and (2/3 1/3 2/3). In the lowest field magnetic phase the principal reflections remain, in higher magnetic field they become suppressed. Moreover, the magnetic background strongly decreases with applied field indicating that in zero field a part of the magnetic moments remains uncorrelated. Recent neutron diffraction investigations on a single crystalline sample reveal an incommensurate amplitude - modulated magnetic structure of HoB12. |
