Popis:	Performance analysis of ATM networks relies on discrete-time queueing models. We discuss various aspects of this theory related to synchronization effects, which may be already present in the system or may be introduced by the modeling approach. This survey paper intends to emphasize the specificity of discrete-time queueing theory and to bring attention to misleading conclusions it could lead to.
