Summary A case of Salmonella Paratyphi C osteomyelitis in a one-month old girl is reported. She was born at term from parents belonging to an African ethnic group. She was hospitalized because of pain in her shoulder without fever. The initial X- rays were normal, the C reactive protein level reached 116 mg/l, blood and cerebro-spinal fluid cultures were positive with Salmonella Parathyphi C. Cefotaxim was used, initially combined with amikacin for 21 days. The X-rays showed destruction of the humeral head and reconstruction after 5 months. A strain of Salmonella Paratyphi C was detected in the mother's feces. |
