Characteristics of a low-pressure high-current discharge in neon

Popis: Measurements were made of the radiative characteristics of a high-current (~100 kA) discharge in neon at pressures of ~3 mm Hg. The temperature and electron density were determined in the pinch zone of the discharge and the emission spectrum was calculated. It was found that an ionization wave traveled in the gas under the influence of a high-power ultraviolet radiation.
