Popis: This article analyses the results of the Women’s Secondary Education Programme, a distance education programme intended to contribute to the improvement of the situation of women in Pakistan. The programme includes a curriculum component aimed at enhancing women’s income generating opportunities. The first section presents some background information about current problems associated with the education of Pakistani women. The report begins with a brief description of the Women’s Secondary Education Programme, its objectives and study patterns. The objectives and methodology of the results analysis are outlined. The study was a quantitative analysis but also included a qualitative ‘dropout’ and ‘completer’ study to gain a clearer understanding of the trends apparent in the overall study. The analysis illustrated the success of the programme in reaching many women who would otherwise have no access to education. It is concluded that despite being relatively expensive, the programme was worth the investment and should continue in its present form.
