The purpose of the current analyses is to examine immune function in healthy non-pregnant adult women before and after genital arousal, including several biomarkers of the immune system (e.g., presence of antibodies). We have previously found differences in sexually active vs. abstinent women in several immune factors; however, the cause of these differences is still unknown. We hypothesize that sexual arousal will be associated with increased expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines in saliva. Results from current analyses could potentially inform research in women’s health. |
