This study investigates how the daily stress received by the elderly people living alone impacts their satisfaction of life in rural and urban areas. Survey was conducted on elderly people living alone in the southern cities, K and C, of South Korea. Chi square test, t-test, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis etc was conducted with the SPSS program with 5 percent level of significance. The results are as follows: First, analysis of the life satisfaction between rural and urban elderly living alone showed no significant difference in physical, material, social, emotional/production domains. Second, daily stress and life satisfaction of the elderly living alone was found to have negative correlation. In the case of urban dwellers, life satisfaction was deteriorated by stresses related to economic problems and social concerns. In the case of rural dwellers, life satisfaction deteriorated by stresses related to interpersonal relationships and economic problems. The findings in this study will provide an empirical basis for developing policies to tackle stress issues and life satisfaction for urban and rural elderly living alone. |
