Popis: | Firstly, we report the structural characteristics of the normal liver, giving special emphasis on the histological organization of the organ and its cellular components. Then, we review the morphological changes of the diseased liver, focusing mainly on the most frequently observed pathologies of the organ in a laboratory of pathology. The analyzed specimens are derived from human liver biopsies and autopsy cases. The techniques employed are light microscopy and, in some cases, data obtained from electron microcopy analysis. Different liver pathologies, such as acute and chronic hepatitis of various origins, including viral, alcoholic, and autoimmune, are reviewed. Steatosis, cirrhosis, and cellular degenerative changes related to various hepatic diseases, including liver malignant neoplasms, are also reported. |
