Popis: New Zealand nephrology is delivered under a publicly funded hospital system with nephrology units in all of the major cities of New Zealand. These units provide all aspects of nephrology management. Like many western countries, New Zealand faces an epidemic of obesity and diabetes, with diabetes the leading cause of end-stage renal disease. In addition, there are disproportionate rates of chronic kidney disease in the Māori and Pacific people who tend to present at an earlier age that the New Zealand Europeans. The nephrologists in New Zealand are a collegial group with an annual meeting of the New Zealand chapter of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology. Nephrology training is overseen by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
