Popis: The preliminary results of a theoretical estimation and experimental investigation of secondary electron emission resulting from large multiply charged cluster bombardment are reported. A beam of highly charged (+10 2 charges) water-glycerol macroclusters as large as 10 6 −10 7 amu, formed using a novel electrohydrodynamic spraying source, was used to measure the potential electron emission under cluster bombardment of a surface. The large secondary electron emission (10 2 electrons/cluster) and its dependence on cluster charge are explained within the theoretical framework of step-by-step Auger neutralization near the surface, accounting for the nonlinear effect of cluster charge. The cluster source itself is unique for producing low velocity beams, as slow as 1 × 10 5 cm/s, consisting of highly charged particles applicable to a wide range of uses.
