Popis: Phase equilibria in ternary systems involving BaO, TiO2, and the low melting oxides B2O3, V2O5, and Mo03 are reported. The low-temperature phases BaTi2O5 and BaTi5O11 were not obtained in equilibrium in any of the studied systems. It has been found that the compound reported with the composition Ba3Ti3V4O19 has in fact the composition Ba3TiV4O15. It decomposes at 995 ± 5°C (Ba3TiV4O15→liq+ Ba2V2O7). A new ternary compound Ba2Ti2B2O9 which decomposes into BaTiO3 and a liquid at ∼950°C was also found. Alternative ways to synthesize BaTi4O9 and Ba2Ti9O20 have been found. These compounds can be obtained by heating at relatively low temperature appropriate compositions in the system BaO-TiO2-V2O5 or BaO-TiO2-MoO3 and dissolving the excess phases in dilute HCI. Ba2Ti9O2o can also be prepared at low temperature in the BaO-TiO2-B2O3 system, in which it may show a limited solid solution, offering the possibility of obtaining dense ceramics at low temperature.
