Popis: | 31st European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 2598-2602 As solar panels are being deployed at GW scales across diverse climatic regions, and as the solar industry must increasingly compete on a leveled cost of energy (LCOE) basis, the effects and cost of soiling on panel output is becoming more acute. Studies of various anti-soiling coatings have generally shown that hydrophobic (low surface energy) coatings exhibit an anti-soiling effect in many locations and applications. However, it has also been postulated that response may differ depending on location specific factors. Here, we present field and laboratory performance data for a robust dual-function anti-reflective and anti-soiling coating that is dense, homogeneous and intrinsically hydrophobic. The anti-soiling effect is shown to be consistent over two years of field exposure. We show that local conditions are an important determinant in anti-soiling response and can begin to draw correlations to select the optimal coating functionalization. We conclude that hydrophobic coatings have a strong anti-soiling effect at most arid sites. |
