Evaluation of coalbed methane resources in the Huainan-Huaibei coalfield of Anhui Province, China, using an analytic hierarchy process and grey cluster method

Popis: | The Huainan-Huaibei coalfield in the Anhui Province in China is an important coal base and comprises a large portion of the coalbed methane (CBM) resources in China. Therefore, it is of great significance to evaluate the CBM resources and categorize its favorable belts in the Huainan-Huaibei coalfield. In this study, a comprehensive evaluation model of CBM resources based on the analytic hierarchy process and grey cluster method was established. Three levels of CBM resource evaluation and the factor weights were determined by the analytic hierarchy process. The evaluation factors, the weights, the evaluation criteria, and the definite weighted functions were determined by the grey clustering method. The study area was divided into 61 evaluation units, and 11 evaluation factors were used to assess these using the proposed evaluation model and data. The results indicate that 5, 29, 22, and 5 units were in the excellent, favorable, average, and unfavorable levels, respectively, in the Huainan-Huaibei coalfield. The favorable belts of the CBM resources were categorized by considering the continuity of the geographical locations and the similarity in the geological conditions of the evaluation units; two favorable belts in the Huainan coalfield and four favorable belts in the Huaibei coalfield were identified. |
