Popis: We prepared activated sludges with three concentrations of Zn from a municipal wastewater by varying Zn concentration of the wastewater. The application of these activated sludges to an Andosol increased the soluble fraction of soil Zn and Zn concentration of plants (Brassica rapa L. var. pervidis Bailey) grown in the greenhouse. The increase in plant Zn concentration correlated closely with the amount of Zn in the sludges added to the soil, indicating that it is readily available to plants and that the plants take up Zn mainly from the sludges. Zn concentrations in plants decreased with increasing time of incubation of the sludges with the soil, suggesting that Zn contained in the sludge transforms to less available forms with their decomposition.
