Popis: | Analysis of the Taiwan Strait is not merely geographic. It can also be studied from a purely political and military perspective, a political perspective with military implications, or a military perspective with political implications. This paper analyzes important issues, such as who owns the Taiwan Strait since August 1945? Can we treat the strait as the high seas? Is there a median line or equidistance line in the strait? Was the middle line broken in March 1996 during the strait crisis? Can the strait be closed, for example, by building artificial islands or a bridge? Can either Beijing or Taipei set up military zones in the strait? Does the strait help or impede Chinese reunification? What is the difference between “innocent passage” and “transit passage” by naval or merchant ships in the strait? Does the Review of Guidelines for Japan-US Defense Cooperation (RGJUDC) include the Taiwan Strait?
