Popis: Genetic studies of resistance to naturally occurring lymphoid leukosis and etiologically related neoplasms induced by the avian leukosis-sarcoma viruses were conducted in seven diallel cross experiments. Three inbred White Leghorn lines were crossed in each experiment, and the mortality of the lines was compared under conditions of artificial exposure which induced a high mortality and natural exposure in which low mortality occurred. The data were analyzed by a weighted least-squares method. No artificial exposure method was found which would increase specific mortality and provide efficient criteria of resistance under all circumstances. It was concluded that genetic resistance to lymphoid leukosis is a highly complex trait, but that at least one simply inherited mechanism of resistance existed which acted at the level of virus infection. Other complex factors govern the birds ability to cope with this infection.
