Popis: This paper provides an overview of the intelligent transportation system (ITS) in the Indian context. The concept of ITS leans attention towards industrial and academic arenas. It integrates information, communication, computer and other integrated technologies and relates them to transportation to build an integrated commuter system, roads, and vehicles by developing advanced data communication technologies. Synthesis of earlier peer-reviewed works identifying current research gaps in ITS knowledge in the Indian context. This synthesis enhances a critical need to evaluate ITS and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Understanding and maximizing the effectiveness of current and future programs. There is a diverse range of vehicle velocities (pedestrians, light motor vehicles, bicycles) as well as poor lane discipline and a very high population density in India, making ITS adoption difficult. Initially, the existing ITS was a solution to current standard practices in traffic management. Data generated by ITS may provide real-time information about current conditions on a network, and it will enhance coordination and more intelligent and smarter use of networks. Secondly, studies showing the comparison of ITS implementation in selected foreign countries and in India. Ultimately, this study considered SWOT analysis, possible technical solutions of ITS deployment, ITS planning and financing, and ITS deployment measures in India. This article is helpful to the policymakers and government to exterminate the potential interfaces in ITS development and smart city initiatives in developing countries like India.
