Popis: | Sampling of the gastrointestinal tract by endoscopic, or full thickness (open abdominal surgical) biopsy is an invaluable tool in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal disease in companion animals. This article gives recommendations on how to collect and submit endoscopic and full thickness biopsies of the gastrointestinal tract, in order to maximise their diagnostic value. It also covers interpretation of the histopathology report and examples of when further samplsing or additional testing may be advisable. It is important to note that these are general recommendations and it is prudent to contact the reporting laboratory with any specific queries or requests. |
