Popis: | This analysis explores the logic of perfection in the vocabularies and discourses of video gaming. Drawing upon Kenneth Burke's conceptualization of perfection, this article argues that the discourses of heavy “gamers” produce an entelechial system of meaning based upon mathematical mastery. The entelechial system relies on the technical mastery of skills to aggressively defeat “others” and move up the game's hierarchy until ultimately “beating the game” or reaching the highest level/score. |
