Popis: Burasaia , a genus comprising five species, is endemic to Madagascar. Protoberberine alkaloids, namely palmatine, jatrorrhizine, columbamine were isolated from the roots of three of them: B. congesta, B. gracilis and B. australis together with the diterpenoid bitter principles columbine, 8-hydroxy columbine and 2,3-epoxy columbine. N , N -Dimetyl 4′-hydroxy 6,7,2′-trimethoxy 1-benzyl 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro isoquinolinium salt was identified from B. congesta . Chemical structure was establish by UV, Ms, 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy. This is a first report of diterpenoid bitter principles and 1-benzyl isoquinolinium salt in Burasaia genus.
