The impetus to obtain an in-house computer is often for the purpose of automatically completing certain types of insurance forms (Fig. 2.1). If the practice fills out 10 Medicare forms (Fig. 2.2) each month, buying a computer solely to perform this function would not be a wise investment. Conversely, if the practice sees no Medicaid patients because forms are too complex, seeing an extra 30 Medicaid patients each month, even at the reduced fees, could pay for a large part of the computer system. To put problems into perspective, you should count the number of each form that is filled out each month. If a specific software package cannot handle CHAMPUS claims but you use only two or three a month, you do not need software which can produce every possible form. |
