Popis: Application of dc voltages (< 100 V) to aqueous dispersions of native zeolites and zeolites modified with known molecular catalysts permits chemical reactivities either not observed in the absence of the electrifying force or observed at much slower rates. Although zeolites are not routinely used for aqueous-phase catalysis, the use of electric fields or potentials applied to zeolite suspensions affects the rate of the exchange of alkali ion in the zeolite for aqueous phase protons generated by the autoprotolysis of water. The kinetics for this process depend on the nature of the charge-compensating cation in the zeolite and the magnitude of the applied electric field.
