Popis: 1. 1. During inflammatory reactions, the level of rabbit serum α 1 -macroglobulin ( α 1 M) increases. These variations have been determined. In the healthy rabbit, the level of α 1 M varies with that of haptoglobin, but in sick animals, these variations are independent of the haptoglobin level. Their hepatic biosnthesis must therefore depend on different factors. 2. 2. By enzymatic hydrolysis, we have split from α 1 M a glycopeptide whose composition is reported. Its content of sialic acid increases during the inflammatory reaction. 3. 3. [1- 14 C]Glucosamine is incorporated into the sialic acid of normal α 1 M. However, the sialic acid which becomes added to the normal molecule is not labelled: it must therefore attach itself to the normal molecule by another metabolic pathway.
