Popis: | on January 12, 1973, the Handbook sets forth the legal and the educational responsibilities of school personnel; it suggests subject matter areas, and it develops guidelines for teaching about religion. According to the Handbook, it is the educational responsibility of school personnel "to insure that study about religion is carried on in the public schools" (2: 28). "To learn about religion," says the Handbook, "is to understand religious views and values, to recognize the immense importance of religion to the American heritage, and to realize that religion continues to permeate both Western and Eastern cultures" (2: 29).
