Popis: SUMMARY A first species list is presented for the Pitcairn Islands group in the Central South Pacific Ocean. Field notes on species were made during a visit in late 1956. Of the 28 forms listed, Henderson Island has 17, Oeno 13, Ducie 10 and Pitcairn 6. The avifauna is predominantly oceanic and migrant, the few lar d-birds having Polynesian affinities, most closely allied to those of the Austral Islands and the Tuamotu group. Two species have been introduced–both to Pitcairn Island– and one of these is now extinct. No extinction of native species has ever been recorded.
