Popis:	This paper describes the performance of the passenger ship Michigan, the first large ship with stern paddle wheel built in Japan. Design data, resistance and self-propulsion test results, and manoeuvring characteristics are given. The comparison between a screw propeller and a paddle wheel with regard to their respective effect on the bottom of Lake Biwa is discussed.
