Tensile and compressive strengths of two horticultural packaging materials: cane and palm frond

Popis:	Summary Tensile and compressive strengths of cane and palm frond rachis were measured fresh and after ambient indoor, sun, and oven drying. Sun drying gave the best tensile strength in palm frond, but still much less than cane; it was almost as effective as oven drying for cane. The compressive strength of frond was much less than for cane, but a combination of both might be useful in strength over frond baskets and in cost over cane baskets.
